The current heated and contested debate going on over this "comprehensive immigration reform" has been something to watch. But it seems to me one important thing is being overlooked. It's called assimilation. Nobody ever wants to point out the differences between then and now. When our grandparents or great-grandparents came to this country, there was a strong effort to assimilate to the new country they just came to. Nowadays, not so much. We are living in the days of bilingual ballots, commercials, phone messages etc. I truly believe this is a topic that isn't getting enough attention. The illegal aliens who take to the streets, demanding rights in this country are making no effort to assimilate to our country. Instead they just continue to demand more bilingual options. I will let the really smart people like Michelle Malkin and others give you all of the background on this disasterous bill, but I really want to point out to people the small detail of assimilation and the lack of it.
On a side note, I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and took some time to remember what the day is really all about....not what John Edwards thought it should be about...protesting. Thank you to all of our service members who have given their lives for us and their sacrifice should never be forgotten or cheapend...are you listening Mr. $400 haircut?! I want to thank both of my grandfathers, my dad, my uncle, and now my brother and his wife for their service to this country and giving me, and all of us, the chance to be free and remain free! Thank you!
