Happy Anniversary

Today is the 27th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice."  As Americans, we should all be thankful to the little team that could.  I was nine years old when the game was played on February 22, 1980, and up until the game was over, and the reaction it generated, all I seem to remember is the constant image of our hostages in Iran and the lack of confidence the country I lived in had (thanks Jimmy Carter!).  But the reaction of the country to us defeating the Soviet Union in that hockey game was incredible.  It was my first exposure to "patriotism."  And it was amazing!  Just how important to our country that Herb Brooks and those 20 young hockey players were/are was realized again when the hockey players came together to light the Olympic flame in Salt Lake City in 2002.  Just five months after 9-11, there they were again, showing us all just how great of a country we live in and how dreams can come true.  While Herb Brooks left us too soon after a car accident several years ago, what he helped bring to this country will never be foregotten.  And never should be.  If you own a copy of the movie Miracle, today is the day to watch it.  This still is the greatest country in the world.  Anybody who doubts that, should look at the streams of people trying to get into our country, even if they have to do it illegally (which is a whole other topic).  President Ronald Reagan took what that team did, and expanded upon it.  It seems fitting to me then, that both the Miracle on Ice, and President Regan's birthday (Feb. 6) are in the same month.  And both are still held in such high esteem by the american public as they should be.  Happy Anniversary to the little team that could, and did!  And we miss you Herb Brooks and President Reagan.

Next Great Horror Movie(Show)

If any of you are looking for the next great horror movie (or show), then tune into Foxnews Channel this weekend.  On both Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 4pm, they are running a show called, Reel Politics: If Hollywood ran America.  This should make the Saw movies look like comedy.

College Hypocrisy

Here is an interesting story about the hypocrisy that goes on, on a college campus.  I am secratary of the UAlbany College Republicans, and one of our members made up new flyers for us to post around campus.  Several were approved by student life, but one was denied.  The one that was denied was a take off of a type of flyer the campus uses to inform students about drinking...ie. 77% of UAlbany students only drink once a week.  Well, our flyer said, 100% of 9-11 Conspiracy Theorists are nuts!  This flyer was turned down, despite the fact that the 9-11 Truth group, were allowed to put up flyers with a picture of Vice-President Cheney with the words....wait for it....WANTED FOR TREASON!  This was fine, but our flyer was denied because it represented a direct attack on another student group.  Huh?  Of course it was, and we do not believe it was over the top in any shape or form.  We were just using 1st Amendment right to free speech to answer and refute the 9-11 Truth group.  I thought college was all about learning to express yourself freely and standing up for what you believe.  The even funnier thing, is we were able to get a flyer approved that said end the holacaust of abortion.  But how dare we directly respond to another specific group on the campus.  This is just another in the long line of examples where college campuses practice hypocrisy.  The one good thing though, is our member Jim has an "in" with David Horowitz, and he may come to our defense.  Nothing like being a conservative republican on a college campus.

Reagan Lives On Even in NY

Hello...this is a new blog coming from a conservative in the unfortunate blue state of New York.  No RINO's allowed.  It is precisely because there are too many RINO's in our party, that we lost control of Congress.  The party has strayed from its Reagan conservatism and it desperately needs to go back to it.  This blog will also not just fall in lock-step with the Bush Administration.  When it is wrong about something (ie. immigration), this blog will call them out.  So I hope you enjoy this blog and please feel free to let me know what you think.
